8, 2008, the Guam Public Library System Nieves M. Flores Memorial Public Library
in Hagåtña will be closed due to non-functioning of its main
Air-Conditioning Unit.
All residents are advised to
utilize the public library branches until further notice, as follows:
Barrigada: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Guam
Public Library 2008 "2nd ANNUAL BOOK SALE & MINI
CARNIVAL" on Saturday, August 23, 2008, WAS A SUCCESS!!
The staff worked
diligently to get all the books out and people still came out to support the
Library considering the light rain.
Our sincere "THANK
YOU!" to South Pacific Petroleum Corporation (76/Circle K) for their
donation of gas coupons for our raffle.
To the band, Digital Traks, for
taking the time to come down and entertain us, "THANK YOU!",
and to Elizabeth"Malama" Flickinger for
having her group "Ohana Me Ke Aloha" perform several beautiful
dances for entertainment - "THANK YOU!"
To the vendors for making
it possible to have booths for food, games and arts & crafts, etc., available for the
public to enjoy - "THANK YOU!"
We especially want to
"THANK" ALL the Guam Public Library
System volunteers, staff and management for their preparation of the Book Sale
& Mini Carnival - with tons of books to set up and breaking down of the event afterwards!

Mission
Statement: Serving Guam
residents since 1949, our mission is to provide free and open access to information and ideas
fundamental to a democracy. The library system will
protect intellectual freedom, promote literacy,
encourage lifelong learning, and maintain cultural materials.
Goals: To accomplish its mission, the library shall:
1. Seek to understand the informational, educational, and recreational needs of all the people of Guam in accordance with the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, and Freedom to View statements within the limits imposed by budget and space;
2. Extend library resources into the community to assist individuals and groups with special needs;
3. Work cooperatively with other island libraries in providing information to the public;
4. Pursue opportunities through new technologies to deliver information more quickly and efficiently.

| Hagatna Library Parking Lot Policy Per Guam Public Law

EFFECTIVE JULY 7, 2008, THE N. M. FLORES MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY IN
HAGATNA WILL BE ENFORCING GUAM PUBLIC LAW NO.
29-35 AND WILL BE ISSUING CITATIONS TO THOSE IN VIOLATION OF SECTION 80127,
CHAPTER 80, TITLE 5 GCA, AS FOLLOWS:
Guam Public Law No. 29-35, AN ACT TO ADD A NEW §80127 TO CHAPTER 80, TITLE 5
GUAM CODE ANNOTATED, RELATIVE TO RESERVING THE HAGATNA LIBRARY PARKING LOT FOR
THE EXCLUSIVE USE BY LIBRARY EMPLOYEES AND PATRONS.
Section
1. A new §80127 is hereby added to Chapter 80 of Title 5 GCA to read:
"§80127. Use of Hagatna Library Parking Lot. The Hagatna
Library parking lot shall be reserved for parking of vehicles operated by
patrons and employees of the Guam Public Library System (GPLS). Parking
in the Hagatna Library parking lot by persons other than those, supra,
shall be a violation and punishable by a fine of Twenty-Five Dollars ($25) per
violation.
The
Director shall be required to maintain a roster of those persons authorized to
park in the Hagatna Library parking lot. The form of such roster
shall be determined by the Board. The Director shall post a sign at the
entrance of the parking lot that states, 'In accordance with the provisions of
§80127 of Title 5 GCA, this parking lot is reserved for the exclusive use of
Guam Public Library patrons and employees. Patrons parking in this lot shall
be required to sign in and out when entering and leaving the library building.
Violators are subject to a fine of Twenty-five Dollars ($25) per violation.'
Enforcement
of the provisions herein this Section shall be the responsibility of the
Guam Police Department; however, the Chief of Police may authorize any
employee(s), designated by the Director, to issue citations for violation of
