Mangilao, Guam; May 23, 2018 – PBS Guam KGTF Channel 12 announces its participation in PBS’ national television series, “The Great American Read.”And just as PBS will be tabulating votes for “America’s Best-Loved Novel,” PBS Guam will be crowning “Guam’s Best-Loved Novel.”
“The Great American Read” will premiere tonight, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. Hosted by television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira, the two-hour episode launch will introduce viewers to the full list of America’s 100 favorite novels selected through a demographically representative national survey conducted by YouGov. The series will also feature interviews with celebrities, authors, superfans and everyday Americans discussing the way particular books have influenced them and their significance in American popular culture.
Then after a multi-platform initiative throughout the summer, the series will resume in the fall with several themed episodes, including an exciting finale, culminating in the first-ever national vote to choose “America’s Best-Loved Novel.” It will be the most expansive national celebration of books and reading aimed at engaging multi-generational readers across multiple platforms ever created.
Similarly, Guam readers will get a chance to vote for “Guam’s Best-Loved Novel.” PBS Guam has collaborated with the Guam Public Library System and Bestseller Guam to bring reading awareness to the island community. The Guam Public Library System is pleased to announce a new library service offered to make your Public Library more enticing to all, especially our island’s adolescence age group. This library service will expose patrons to all of the other services the Library has to offer and will also encourage them to visit the Library to develop their love of books and reading.
PS-4 and X-box 360 game consoles with educational games are now available for use at the Hagåtña Public Library and the five (5) branch locations located in Merizo, Agat, Yona, Barrigada and Dededo. Funding for the new Gaming Consoles was provided through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) 2016 Competitive Grant which the Library applied for and was approved in July 2016.
GPLS continues providing informative learning opportunities through a variety of ways. Games are just as much of an educational tool as reading a book.
